Some Mac users are unable to get the application to run by double clicking it. A helpful users in the Beta found this trick which seems to work:
- Right click on the Embrio application and select “show package contents”
- Go to Contents/MacOS
- Rename the Launcher.exec file and remove the .exec extension, so the file is just called “Launcher”
- Right click on Launcher, then select Open With -> Terminal
If the "open with" option is greyed out and not selectable, in the window that opens with the choose application page there should be a menu box that lets you select between enabling "Recommended Applications" or "All Applications". Select "All Applications". I apologize for this annoyance and will hopefully get it figured out at some point. In the mean time, if anyone has any issues getting Embrio to run on a Mac please post them here.

I'm running a MacBook Pro, running 10.12.5. I'm experiencing the "bounces or disappears" bug. I've tried MonoFramework 4.8, 5.1.1 (current), and 5.2 (beta), all to no effect. I've tried the fix listed here, but just get the error message, "The application “Embrio” can’t be opened." I'm eager to learn this and introduce my students to it! How do I proceed? [Edit: Despite a warning, the fix listed here works. Too shaky to recommend to my students, but at least it's working in principle!] Edited by user Wednesday, August 02, 2017 6:08:35 PM(UTC)

If you open with the launcher you should be getting some messages logged in the command window I believe. Do you see anything there? If so could you paste it here?

Now working, though the icon has a warning on it saying it won't run once I take .exec off Launcher.exec. Quote:Temporary-Reduction-in-Entropy:~ joshua$ /Applications/EmbrioMac.2.1.5.1/Embrio.app/Contents/MacOS/Launcher ; exit; Error deleting local node definitions. This probably won't be a problem unless the new version had defininition changes, which is rare. If so, delete the NodeDefinitions folder in the /Documents/Embrio folder. Thanks for the update. I agree this is a very annoying issue. I may have figured out the problem in something I'm working on now. I am looking forward to hearing if you still encounter this error after the next update which is coming soon.

I finally posted the update I've been working on. I believe it may have helped the bug that caused the Mac version to crash when double clicked. If you get a chance to upgrade and try again I'd be interested in hearing if you have better luck running the program.
