I have not been able to find anything much on the serial comms.

What I'm looking at doing is having a master with 8 slaves. And later on there will be multiply master units, as each rack will contain 1 master and 8 slaves. Total not fixed, load dependent.

I do want to be able to hot swap the slave units which will require the comms to see that a unit has been remove and take it out of the system until it's replaced.

I think I might have to use Modibus to do this but I'm currently unsure.

Each rack will have to will have to talk to a overall master controller with the same logic as the as above Hot swapable.

But this is later on in the project.

I still have some home work to do myself as to which way to go in the longer term.

What you're trying to do is a bit beyond me. I've never used Modbus. I've been suggested to look into it several times but haven't had the chance yet. It is something I'd be interested in adding to the library. If you do try implementing something let me know if I can help, or if you have something to share.

As for implementation and details of serial comms, it should be quite the same as doing it in Arduino without Embrio. The only thing you'll have to worry about in Embrio is interfacing with the communication using a custom node and inputs and outputs that make sense.

You'd probably have an input and output node. The input would probably read in the EveryUpdate event and set some node output value. The output would have an input value, and an OnChange event that sends that value when it changes.

I'm working on a project similar to this one. Having programming problems. I used arduino and serial display to makeBigGrin
